What does 'deregulation'mean? |
|
Deregulation began in the 1980s. It was instigated by Margaret Thatcher
& was basically a breaking up of all the nationalised industries.
This meant that the market was opened up & competition increased
considerably, independent companies battling against each other to
provide more economical services, thus creating greater choice &
better deals for the consumer. Deregulation put the consumer in a
stronger position, & it is important that the consumer exercises
that power to choose; it has been said that the U.K. has still not
gotten used to deregulation & that a lack of desire to change
means that consumers are paying more than they should do for their
