What is renewable energy?
|
| |
Renewable
energy is energy that comes from non-expendable resources, such as
wind or solar power. Fossil fuels such as coal & oil are used
far quicker than the earth can replenish them, & are in danger
of running out completely. Furthermore, the burning of these fossil
fuels results in emissions of carbon dioxide, associated with global
warming & the climate changes that threaten to melt the polar
ice caps & raise sea levels to dangerous levels. Renewable energy,
however, does not create any adverse environmental repercussions.
By using natural resources such as the wind & the sun, energy
can be harnessed in a safe & eco-friendly way. You don't have
to start your own wind farm to take advantage of renewable energy;
many energy companies now offer a 'green tariff' whereby they supply
you only with energy from environmentally friendly sources.
